wow. july 7. one year with my employer as of today =)
last weekend was so much fun! zubin came to visit on thursday. after he got in, stopped by my place, then hit up korea house for some great bbq. chilled for a while, watchin tv then hit the sack.
friday we visited stanford campus. whoo, it was awesome. i hadn’t been back to campus to hang out in a while. showed him everything major after grabbing grub @ la bamba. walked through the quad, white plaza, bookstore, tressider, science and engineering quad, gates, packard, memchu, memaud, hoover tower, cantor, gates of hell, etc etc. i finally went up to the top of hoover tower! wow, what a view. i have pictures that i will post in the gallery at some point. we also checked out the sports facilities and stuff like that. after stanford, we went to downtown palo alto and had dinner @ nola’s. i introduced zubin to hurricanes, which he loved. i had the pork chop again, and this time it was not very good at all. i was pretty disappointed because that was my favorite dish there. drove back to my place to preparty before hitting up dna.
jackie and eric arrived and we started off doing a lil drinking. well all of us but eric cuz he was DD up to SF. this random kitten got into my patio and started meowing really loudly. i tried to scare it away but it was eating up the attention that jackie and zubin were giving it. cats are bad luck for hindus. i wanted nothing to do with the damn thing. but i finally caved and gave it some water.
headed up to dna for kaskade’s cd release party! joslyn was there to sing live and i was psych’d. the first dj sucked so we went to the hip hop room. did some drinking there and watched some crappy people dance. finally got pushed into getting on the floor and danced there for a while. headed down to the main floor shortly before kaskade came on.
kaskade + joslyn was awesome. great performance, awesome music, great crowd. jackie and i sort of lost track of zubin and eric but met up with these two new people, chad and lorena. i kept calling lorena leandra and i felt bad but whatever. we sort of had our own circle going for a lil bit. it got close to 2:30 so i stepped out to call eric so we could get his car moved out of the garage. i was way too drunk to do anything and so was eric so zubin pulled the car out and parked it streetside. got back inside dna and danced til about 3:45 or so. i think. at this point i was sober enough to drive home since eric and jackie were pretty gone and i didn’t feel right asking zubin to drive home. got back. passed out.
saturday we woke up a little late, grabbed some lunch @ costco off rengstorff, and then headed up to SF. went to the golden gate bridge, the presidio, golden gate park, fisherman’s wharf, pier 41 and 39, etc. at pier 39, i entered the poster shop there in the back and found the tupac poster that i’ve been hunting for for several months. i saw it almost a year ago and have been trying to find it online and have had no luck. i bought the last one at the store. the verse on the poster is as follows:
In the event of my Demise
when my heart can beat no more
I Hope I Die For A Principle
or A Belief that I had Lived 4
I will die Before My Time
Because I feel the shadow’s Depth
so much I wanted 2 accomplish
before I reached my Death
I have come 2 grips with the possibility
and wiped the last tear from My eyes
I Loved All who were Positive
In the event of my Demise
when i saw this verse a while back it really struck me. i wanted to get that poster and put it in my space. so i finally did. i’m going to get it laminated at kinko’s to preserve it (and save me $60 for framing the thing). should be up on my bedroom wall by the end of the week.
saturday night we had sushi at the best place in SF: ebisu. great fish… damn that was good. zubin liked it a lot too. after the food, we drove back home and watched usual suspects.
sunday we got up, met up with eric and got on the caltrain to catch the a’s vs. giants game. yep, i managed to get tix to the game at the last minute from a stanford alum. youn joined us on the train. the game was pretty good, 9-6, with drama. a couple of pitchers got tossed and a fan got taken out too. i got baked in the sun and decently tan, wow it was hot.
after the game, took the train back, which seemed to take FOREVER. god it was slow. eric departed and me, youn, and zubin headed up to oakland for some dinner @ everett and jones. now i’ve been wanting to try the ribs here for several weeks so i was really looking forward to this meal. i even tried to make reservations, but they don’t do that. so we drive up to oakland, only to find that the broadway exit ramp is CLOSED! i called up melinda and she was able to help guide me back toward jack london sq. ended up hopping back on 880S, then exiting, heading north again toward the sq. found some parking finally and just walked a few blocks to the restaurant. major disappointment! the waitress says this as soon as she comes up to us ” i should tell you guys that we are out of ribs “. out of ribs!? WTF! i drove almost an hour for this. i was annoyed, especially since you’d think for july 4th, they’d have a decent stock of food. ended up getting the pollo with the hot sauce and it was pretty decent. their sides are incredibly tasty, i had the yams and collard greens and tried zubin’s beans. the cornbread was pretty decent too. i have to say that i like ok corral up in seattle a lot more but e&j was pretty decent. after we ate, we stepped outside to watch the fireworks, which was a pretty awesome show. i found out later that the SF show sucked cuz it was all foggy! glad we didn’t try to head over there b/c the oakland show was nice and clear. the finale was pretty superb.
lots of weedsmokers on the way back. anyway we drove back, youn departed and we watched spy game. crashed after that.
monday we grabbed food @ ramon’s burrito real, had a long interesting conversation there, and then headed down to santa cruz. took a while cuz i got lost but we found our way to the natural bridges state beach and hung out there. drove by the boardwalk and the crazy crowds, and saw lots of people. parked downtown, walked around, got some stuff to drink and watched farenheit 9/11 at the theater down there. GREAT MOVIE. i will write more about it later. go watch it.
after the movie, came back to my place, ordered some pizza chicago and settled in to watch JFK, my favorite movie. great flick, after the movie we passed out and woke up early so i could drop off zubin at the airport. he said he had a great time and i really enjoyed his visit too. he gave me a nice waterman pen as a thank you present, which while completely unnecessary, was very very nice =)
tuesday was a long day. so tired from waking up @ 5am to get to the airport. had my review at the end of the day, where my manager gave me a glowing review! i was so happy, all smiles walking out of there. came home a little early and just vegged a little. went out for a bite with sam to fiesta del mar (expensive place for the food they serve) and then we chilled for a bit while i demo’d my new sound system. he took off and i just chilled for a while before sleeping.
today was my 1 yr anniversary with my employer as mentioned before. nothing special happened really. went out to lunch with a bunch of people and enjoyed some very good pho. met sue ann, a coworker of mine that i have seen around but never really spoke to. she went to UW so we chatted about all things seattle. got a bad headache after lunch (msg headache??) and decided to take off after an afternoon meeting to nap. came home and passed out for 3 hrs. felt SO good after waking up. did a little work tonight, and jackie dropped by. talked for a bit, ran over to safeway to grab some groceries, chatted online with bea and eric and here i am now, 1:30am.
i’m gonna hit the sack now. hopefully i’ll wake up not too tired and i’ll go work out! otherwise, i’ll save it for after work. supposed to be doing something with youn tomorrow, perhaps the bargain theater @ milpitas. i just know have a shitload of work to get done soon!
sleep. at last.
good news!!
