i need to do this before i forget. vegas summary!
thursday:
dinner @ paris, 3-4 hr poker session @ aladdin + a free mug. came out up $. grabbed some late night grub @ barbary coast: $3 for eggs, sausage, toast, hash browns. ridiculously cheap, not very tasty. hit the sack early b/c….
fri:
woke up early for a teleconference with work, lunch @ quizno’s, walked the strip a bunch to see new york new york, mandalay bay, luxor etc. ben learned some craps @ mandalay bay from a random nice dude who taugh us all some tips and we stopped @ luxor. eric and i played more hold’em, and tho i got WAY down, managed to walk out about even. dinner @ new york new york, some cheapo but decent pizza.
saw owen wilson @ hard rock cafe after ditching ghostbar and rain @ palms and the lame wait where they only seemed to let in girls and white boys. ditched hard rock b/c of the same shit. decided to go downtown where i watched eric and ben play $300 or so in craps at el cortez. we stopped at this place by circus-circus on the way back that had $1 heinekens, $1 amstels and $.75 margaritas. awesome. loved it. we sat back and had a few. headed off to barbary coast and waited in line for drais. at least there was no discrimination in who got in, but there was a $30 cover that i thought was ridiculous, so we headed out, and passed out.
sat:
woke up a bit late, hit up paris for their buffet. so i gotta say, i didn’t eat very much so i didn’t get my money’s worth, but the food was pretty solid. definitely the largest buffet i’ve ever laid eyes on. went on to play poker @ bally’s. i started this session similar to my last stint @ luxor: losing a decent amount up front on pretty solid hands. @ luxor, i had pocket queens two hands in a row and couldn’t take EITHER pot. 15 minutes in @ bally’s i was down 20+ chips. eventually got down even further, but won the occasional pot to stay around 50 chips. finally went on a tear as it was getting close to when my friends wanted to break for dinner. came out up by busting pocket queen’s and flopping trips. went head to head with a guy that i read picked up the pair. i checked on the turn, suckered him in on the river and took 40 chips on that pot to leave in the plus instead of leaving down.
after ballys, we got ready, and BARELY made it to rum jungle in time for our dinner reservations @ 9. get this, they let u make reservations for 9 when the kitchen supposedly closes @ 9:05. lame. we were made stressed/rushed but it worked out. ordered really good food, but my mojito, which was awesome the day before, totally sucked that night. very undrinkable, and i’ve had superstiff drinks @ clubs before. sent it back and the second time around it was a little better. when the restaurant turned into a club, things got pretty amazing. it was a cirque de soleil type show over the bar. just amazing acrobatics. had a pretty good time there but it got slow, so we took off, had a late night bite of pizza and hot dogs. went back, waited for zub to get a poker table and then crashed.
sun: dropped off ben early @ the airport, came back and me, zub and eric all went to the airport together. had a huge scare there when i couldn’t find my license at the gate, but luckily a security guard found it right where we had been sitting. it must have popped out of my pocket when i pulled my ticket out.
all in all, vegas rocked. had a blast, came out up a little bit and had a bunch of free alcohol. most likely i’ll head back at some point just for the fun of the casinos.
favorite part of the trip: ending up on two different poker sessions
worst part of the trip: waiting in lines for clubs
shoulda done it: see caesar’s and the venetian
