i received formal notification of my promotion today and it kicks in starting with this week’s paycheck. not bad. it’s been a long, stressful road for me to get this pushed through and i’m glad it finally happened. once management recognized that i should be promoted, it took a while, a long while, for it to happen… i suppose that is the cost of bureuacracy at a huge company. i feel relieved that it’s over with, i can put it behind me and focus on other things.

today i learned more about the salary and promotion strategy of this company that i work for and i must say that it is not particuarly compelling. it is mostly the complete package that keeps me here for the time being, with my free education and flexible work schedule. i’ve been selected to the final round for a leadership development program that should prove interesting and will also influence me to stay with this company for a while longer if i am chosen.

salary and money issues are frustrating. or as a friend told me, they’re only as frustrating as you make them, and lately i have been making these issues more frustrating than they are probably worth. part of it is my confidence in my abilities and accomplishments being validated by management with this promotion and increased responsibility, and part of it is these action not being mirrored by what i consider “fair” compensation. really though the package is great, getting my master’s paid for and all. i think i’m just very demanding of myself and of the world around me.

looking forward to a short week, with the much needed off-friday. this past weekend was fun, 4-5 hr poker session at bay101 (+$40), finishing up a ton of schoolwork this weekend with my team, sushi and watching SAW with youn, getting completely hammered, playing windy tennis and getting my butt whupped by helen, and chilling with katie after she got back in town. this coming week has a little bit of school work, some movie watching i hope, and a weekend to look forward to.
