had my interview today for a leadership program within the company. it’s an interesting idea, one that almost surprises me about my company. the idea is to let leadership oriented individuals apply for a program that fosters career growth toward management positions. the program is sort of selective, considering the self-selecting individuals that decide to apply. you need to have a 3.0 or 3.5 gpa (can’t remember exactly), a master’s (or in pursuit/planning), leadership experience, and the ability to commit to 3-4 year’s of nearly annual rotations to a variety of different projects.
i felt good about the interview. i felt like i got some good nonverbal feedback like smiles, nods, notes being jotted down, etc. a little off the record conversation followed too. i get the results next week sometime, so here’s hoping.
things are settling down at work soon. i think in the past 4 weeks i figured out i’ve worked close to 260 hrs. that’s 65 hrs/week on average and that is… crazy. part of my frustration comes from incredibly poor planning that caused this situation. another part of my frustration comes from the ridiculous work imbalance and the extremely high percentage of labor i was responsible for in this project. i blame the extremely poorly written code i inherited and all the leg work i had to do to make it useable. next week i have to comment/restructure some of it, but it’s improved.
school has been up and down. bursts when i have stuff to take care of right before it’s due. lately i’ve been doing UI mockups for the tool we are defining requirements for. it’s an interesting process and brings back memories of cs147 with winograd and the research projects i worked on sophomore year. i’m looking forward to sitting down this weekend and really coming up with something the team will like. also i need to go through and review a lot of our documents that specify the requirements we will be explicitly detailing in the next class.
overall so busy i can barely handle it all. i’m looking forward to things slowing down a bit over the next couple weeks so i can take care of the basics like laundry, filing my mail, cleaning up my apartment, doing dishes, prepping my bike, etc etc.
updates to come later…….

I apologize for posting this in the comments section, but I couldn’t find a contact link on the page.
I just wanted to make sure you know you’re invited to a Bay Area Blogger Meet-Up this coming Saturday at the KRON 4 Studios at 1001 Van Ness in San Francisco. The event starts at noon and will include snacks and a memento.
We want to listen to local bloggers about the best ways we can become a part of the citizens media community in the Bay Area. Eventually we hope to find ways to work together to create content both for blog readers and TV Viewers.
Please folo this link to RSVP for the event.
I look forward to meeting you there.
