summer jam was pretty fuckin awesome.
we got there a little late and there was a long ass line to get in. our strategy to cut in line that worked for dave matthews a few years ago didn’t work this time around so we were stuck waiting and waiting. picked up a little grub on our way in and then headed for our seats. they were pretty awesome, section 103 which is the inner bowl facing the left part of the stage. we got there when john legend was performing and he was singing Ordinary People. great song, beautiful performance on the piano.
talib kweli’s performance was alright. his music is a bit too lyrical and fast to enjoy in a concert setting. common was awesome, i loved it when he did The Light. kanye west was a huge surprise and he came running out after common pitched his cd and introduced him. i gotta pick up his new cd. goapele was a surprise, i didn’t know her but i knew her music and loved it. same for keisha cole, i knew some of her music but not all the songs that belonged to her. she’s good but she’s got a lot of relationship/man-hating lyrics. she also did the part of syleena in kanye’s “all falls down” and was pretty good. the bay area groups were solid, frontline, e-a ski and e-40 all got the crowd crazy.
wasn’t too big on the ying yang twins and neither was katie so we stepped out to get some air and get away from the loudness. we got back in to enjoy jodeci. they’re very much like an old school boy band, playing up to the ladies in the crowd. really enjoyed the performance of Come and Talk to Me.
we took off a little early to try and avoid the traffic getting out but that didn’t really help. took a long time to escape the amphitheater and there were some crazy drivers, but we made it out alright.
that’s it for now…
