i spent most of friday organizing my life. things were getting a bit unwieldly with unfiled mail, recycleables, garbage, etc so i decided to take advantage of my off-friday and clean things up. i ended up filing away months old email, taking out the garbage and recycleables, returning some stuff @ costco that was way overdue, dropping off some checks at the bank and picking up the books i mentioned in the previous post. also cleaned up my desk, bedroom, bathroom and the kitchen. most importantly, wrapped up all the project deliverables for school and submitted them for grading. overall, one of the most productive days i’ve had in a really long time.
jackie came over to hang out for a bit before we headed out to dinner. i was supposed to meet up with eric and we all decided on sushi @ sono’s in downtown mountain view. there was a mixup and we ended up missing eric for dinner. it was my first time to sono and i thought the sushi was decent. nothing spectacular but not too bad for the price. i ordered 5 a la carte items that came out to $19 including tax and tip. we checked out the bookstore a few doors down and saw some funny calendars. ended up heading home shortly thereafter to finish some of the cleaning up that i had started earlier.
i’m contemplating whether to hook my desktop back up as a windows media center, or to turn it into a linux/solaris testbed box. i’ve been keenly watching progress on the linux desktop front and while i still don’t think it’s quite there, i have a lot of hope for SuSE 10. Novell believes that the exorbitant costs of upgrading to Windows Vista will drive companies to embrace linux and they hope to offer the most compelling desktop. incorporating the latest kde/gnome offerings in addition to openoffice and their work on beagle should go a long way. i’d like to take a look at the latest solaris release too so we’re installing at work on an extra box we have laying around.
