last night i finished off season 1 of entourage. i’ve been catching episodes of season 2 spurratically on hbo without much regard for when new episodes air and decided i should try to get “caught up”. with 8 half hour episodes split across 2 dvs, this is a pretty simple task. i’m just blown away by how good this show is. it’s like every episode is a dose of prozac. i’m just really happy after every episode. if you’ve managed to not see an episode yet, which is very easy to do considering this show is only on hbo, get it from netflix or blockbuster. you won’t be disappointed. i’ve been asked what the show is like, and the only way i can seem to describe is to use ben’s words: “it’s like sex in the city, but for guys”. it’s not nearly as raunchy, but it definitely has a sexual edge.

the show is probably most famous for its really cool cameos of various hollywood stars like val kilmer, gary busey, ralph macchio (karate kid), chris penn (sean penn’s bro), bob saget, hugh hefner, mandy moore, scarlett johansen, amanda peet, u2, etc etc. the nice thing about the cameos is that they are pretty real, the characters are usually playing themselves (tho val kilmer’s reprisal of a jesus-like pot-god is simultaneously hilarious and remiscent of various characters i met at school). the dialogue is usually really good, the music’s great, the direction of the plot is awesome (if not enviable) and there are lots of beautiful people everywhere. the male characters all resemble guys we know or are like (at least personality-wise… i don’t know any movie stars), so what’s not to love?

i’m looking forward for season 2 to come out on dvd, hopefully around christmas this year, so i can get the full rendition instead of my spotty track record catching assorted episodes. 24 is due out this winter, so i have some enjoyable dvd watching ahead of me no matter what.
