when i said i had a car fetish, i wasn’t joking. anyway, lexus indicates the msrp on this fine piece of engineering is $36,030. That’s for the IS350 and there’s about $4,500 in available options (18″ wheels, navigation system, bluetooth, etc). overall, not bad at all. the only downside i can see is that the IS350 is not available with a manual transmission, but they offer paddles on the steering wheel for controlled shifting. given that i have to learn how to drive a stick, i may be able to forgo this. the car mags are speculating that the ‘07 product line may bring a manual IS350. to give you an idea, a similarly configured bmw 330i runs $50,000. lexus is clearly playing the cost card here, offering a higher performance sedan for roughly $10,000 less. not to mention that the lexus styling is damn sexy. there are too many f-’ing bimmers in the the sf bay area. this probably holds true for any relatively wealthy area of the country since they’ve become the new “i’ve arrived” icon.

supposedly these new models hit the showroom on october 14th, so i might sneak over to the lexus dealership on stevens creek on my offday and check it out. part of me really wants to hold out until i finish school to buy this car. i could take advantage of the college graduate program after my master’s is done. haha, just kidding, that program doesn’t really do much. anyway… enough dreaming for now…
