dearth of posts

December 19th, 2005 · No Comments

so there have been a dearth of posts here for the past couple of weeks and it’s because i’ve been drowning in school work and stuff for my job. thankfully the semester just wrapped up today and i will be going on vacation from work starting wednesday until january 3rd. needless to say, i can’t wait to be done with all that is causing me stress.

it’s 1:15am and i should really sleep so i can be fresh @ work tomorrow, but fuck it, i just skimmed the past year’s worth of posts and i don’t want the year to end in such a lame way when i’ve been pretty good for most of the year about updating this site.

seattle trip reportĀ

so i flew home on december 1st to spend the weekend in seattle since it was ben’s 24th birthday. i had some hesitation about going back to seattle since i wasn’t so sure about the situation at home, but things turned out well. the one great thing about family and good friendships is that you can usually pick up where you left off, even if there’s been a fair amount of time off in the relationship. so i flew in thursday evening and hung out with my parents, talking until about 3am about everything from religion to politics to real estate. it was interesting and i think we all just had a lot to say since we had not talked in earnest for quite some time.

friday i slept in until around 11, had some homemade dosa, then met up with zubin in downtown bellevue. he ended up getting off work a bit later than expected so i hit up best buy to get ben’s birthday present. zubin and i got him season 1 of 24 since i figured he would enjoy it (and not mind elisha cuthbert). after zub met up with me, we hit up taco time for some lunch then headed over to ben’s place in capital hill. W O W. his condo is hella nice. the parking situation sucks, but the view is just jaw dropping. 3 bedroom, 2 bath condo split across two floors with a gorgeous view of the space needle. i’ve posted some pictures in the gallery. (ignore the picture with the peace signs… zubin duped me!) after chilling at ben’s for a bit, we headed over to agua verde in the u-district right off the water. we got there a bit early and just chilled. dave and don met up with us there, so we had a little high school friends contingent. ben’s law school friends also showed up and there were a lot of them. the food was so-so and the law school friends were ordering shot after shot. it was weird, for some reason i didn’t feel compelled to drink much there but i had my corona and don’s prickly fruit drink. (yes, don’s drink was red/pink).

we headed over to some random house party with a bunch of people i didn’t know and spent a bit of time there. i talked to some of the law school friends that came along and got to know them a little better. one of the girls was from bellingham and she was amazed that i knew where that was. i thought that was pretty funny, since any native seattleite has probably been up to vancouver, bc and passed through bellingham. one of his classmates used to play basketball and football at UCLA. pretty impressive, though before the night was over he came across as your typical athlete. he and this other guy were getting uberdrunk and beating the crap out of each other. i got pretty lit too and kept pace with the athlete guy but didn’t feel compelled to pummel anyone. the girls were joking about their abuse of each as homoerotic foreplay. funny stuff. in the drunkeness, someone busted out a can of spam-lite and put that on the stove to cook. i had to try it since i’ve never had spam before in my life and i have to say it’s not bad. before the night was over, i drunk sms’d katie, headed over to chinatown with the high school guys to get late night chinese food @ purple dot and somehow managed to get home by 4am.

woke up superearly in the morning on saturday, but forced myself to go back to sleep and eventually woke up with no hangover. i was happy since i remembered falling asleep wondering why i didn’t drink any water to go along with a handful of beers and another handful of shots. participated in my school meeting. ben and zub really wanted to hit up the pancake corral for breakfast so we met there for brunch and dave joined us. i enjoyed the hashbrown omlette there that i am yet to see offered at any other breakfast/diner place i’ve been to. afterward, we checked out the new lincoln center in downtown across from bell square. there isn’t really much there yet besides the container store, a few restaurants and the new westin. we headed over to the mall to walk around and do some shopping. i met up with a former co-worker who had left the company and moved his family up to washington to join microsoft. it was nice to catch up with him. we headed over to seattle for dinner @ the ok corral, served up by otis. it’s this hole in the wall place with some pretty good soul food. afterward, we tried to catch a movie in the udist but to no avail so we went to best buy to get ben a dvd player so he could watch movies. zub jetted at this point and i watched almost 2 discs worth of 24 with ben before checking out for the night since i was really tired.

sunday i slept in a bit, did homework and hung out at home. we talked a bit about real estate and so i’m considering buying a place out in cali or up in seattle. not positive what to do yet but i’ll probably decided in a couple of months. flew home and caught up on some more homework. all in all, the trip was really fun, i really loved being back in seattle and i’m so glad i went.
