so i’ve been off of work since dec 21. finished up school on dec 18th, then scrambled to get some shit done for work until the 21st. i’m so incredibly frustrated with my manager at work. calling him a manager does that title a disservice. anyway… not gonna delve into the details about all of it because i’m finally on vacation and the point should be to relax now. i did get some good news from school… finally pulled an A+ on a class @ cmu whoohoo! kudos to our team for kickin’ ass.

i flew out of sfo on the 21st to chicago, where katie picked me up late at night and we drove back up to milwaukee (about an hour and 40 mins by car). since then i’ve been chilling here (quite literally… it’s REALLY cold in the midwest). so far, i’ve watched fun with dick and jane, played some poker at a casino in downtown milwaukee and enjoyed sleeping in a couple of days until noon. i’ve been helping out with some of the cooking duties here and that’s been fun. good food, good times.

yesterday was christmas and we woke up really early, enjoyed a breakfast cooked by one of katie’s sisters and opened a ton of presents. this year i got presents for everyone in katie’s family instead of just buying a family present. i figured i’m finally working, earning a decent keep, i should be able to do something like this. also made a big contribution to our vacation fund, which hopefully we’ll be dipping into in march.

i got a lot of stuff i’m really excited about. some good books: two lives by vikram seth, freakonomics (i’ll probably finish reading it this weekend and exchange it for a farewell to justice), the rose that grew from concrete by tupac shakur, a big computer architecture book and an anthology of articles from the onion (bathroom reading as katie put it). katie’s mom got me the first four seasons of everybody loves raymond! i love this show so much and katie’s mom has been enjoying it as well i also got a really slick mounting system for my ipod in my car (which has in turn motivated me to buy the remaining parts i need to directly connect my ipod to my car’s bose audio system). whoohoo!

i’ll be here in milwaukee until dec 28, and then katie and i will head down to chicago to fly from there to seattle. we’ll be spending the next couple of days in whidbey island/camano island and then there’s new year’s eve and a party at ben’s to also celebrate zubin’s birthday. i’m looking forward to going back to seattle, but i’m also a bit anxious as well. looking forward to seeing peter (and meeting his gf) and babak, whom i haven’t seen in a very very long time.
