it’s already january 10th and i’ve been back in the bay area for a week so this post is long overdue. here’s a quick rundown:
- katie’s remaining tickets were cancelled when she flew home early and didn’t use the first leg of our three-legged journey. stupid stupid northwest airlines. we spent an hour bitching at customer service and the best we could do was get flight credit. very very frustrating situation. she ended up flying in the next day, only to have her luggage follow on a different flight!
- i arrived on the 28th, hung out at home fora little bit, and then headed off to babak’s to play poker with babak, his brothers and cousins and ben.
- chilled on the 29th, getting lunch @ the redmond towne center with don and ben at thai ginger. visited the startup don’s working at and saw a little demo of their product. pretty cool stuff. headed over to ben’s, watched four brothers (which was so-so) and then headed off to the airport after dropping ben off for the UW basketball game. katie’s flight was delayed and we waited an hour for her luggage and finally figured out it wasn’t coming. stopped by southcenter to grab some clothes and then we hit up taco time in factoria for a much delayed dinner. stopped by my house briefly and then started a 2 hour long drive to coupeville on whidbey island @ 10pm. that was a fucking hard drive to do in the tired state i was in. super dark/windy/rainy. spent the night at a cozy b&b.
- spent the 30th chilling on whidbey, visiting different little towns along the way. there was a farm we passed by that was also doing wine tasting for local wineries. it was a nice little spot and we tried a few different types. i ended up picking up a loganberry wine… yep, pretty different but i had to get it for the novelty. anyway, it was nice checking out all the little spots on the island which featured very beautiful sights. we met up for dinner @ daniel’s broiler in seattle on lake union. it’s a pretty frou-frou steakhouse, and we all enjoyed a nice meal with some wine.
- new year’s eve’s highlight was a party at ben’s. great view, awesome fireworks, cool company and lots and lots of chips
- new year’s day i watched the seahawks game, which was pretty uneventful since they had the nfc wrapped up. snagged some lunch @ taco time and headed home. overall it was a very chill day. we hung out with peter and his gf bev and had dinner with zub. also caught munich in redmond… great movie.
don’t really remember jan 2nd, but i do remember seeing ben before taking off. oh yeah, all of us had dinner at the old spaghetti factory. anyway, katie and i flew back here on the 3rd and i took some sick time off of work. i worked the 4th and took halfdays off for the remainder of the week. it was really nice to have her visit and just relax. i opened up her christmas present to me, a nice 10 bottle wine rack and 4 nice crystal wine glasses. we enjoyed a couple of bottles while she was here.
that’s about it for now… time for sleep!
