must…stay…awake

July 9th, 2006 · No Comments

well today was a pretty strange day. i woke up early because i set an alarm for myself. i wanted to get some stuff done for school before our 10am meeting. waking up was rough and i realized i was out of milk… which meant no breakfast. i jumped in the G and headed out to safeway to grab some groceries to last me for the day. by the time i got back, i had about half as much time as i had planned to get some work done, but i managed to scramble together some work for the meeting.

my teammates and i butted heads on some issues that needed resolving. i think our understanding of some fundamental software engineering concepts vary and this caused some friction. choosing and applying application design patterns as a problem resembles other computer science problems that trade one characteristic for another. we eventually arrived at a solution that worked for everyone. i’m finding that as this two year program winds down, my patience is disappearing. one of the key tenets is understanding the importance of teams to the software engineering process, but i think this is being compromised by project fatigue. thankfully, there are only THREE WEEKS LEFT!

after the school meeting was over, i camped out on my couch to watch the world cup finale. i expected france to run an emotional tidal wave with zidane’s final game motivating them to the victory. they managed to score that first goal, but it was all down hill from there. the second half of the game was mostly a blur to me because i was so sleepy. it’s been years since i felt so tired that i drifted in and out of sleep while trying to stay awake doing something. after the game was over, i trudged over to my bed and passed out for a couple of hours.

after i woke up, i took care of sorting through massive stacks of paper on my desk. my apartment is finally starting to look more presentable, but i have a few more things to take care of like vacuuming and moving around some boxes that i’m putting off until my back is better. i’d be pissed if i reaggravated it for no good reason. i spent some time taking care of finances and paying off those obnoxious bills (water, cell, internet).

i finally got around to doing some school work but had to head out to gas up my car and pick up some dinner. i’ve seen a bunch of cops out in the past few days so i’ve been extra paranoid about getting pulled over for my tint and lack of front plate. on my little errand run i saw 2 cops in a 10 mile round trip, but thankfully they were preoccupied with other delinquents.

i guess that’s about it for now. i have 2 days left of my steroid treatment and i think it was extremely effective so far. i’ll reserve final judgment for a week from now after everything has found its way out of my system. oh! entourage was on tonight. it was a great episode, but a frustrating one to watch. i can’t believe all of them got the aston martin db9 convertible! soooooooo sick, that car is sex on wheels. previews of next week’s episode have my interest particularly piqued.

oh yeah, i’m watching shallow hall as i blog this. it’s a surprisingly good movie, one that has a really pertinent message.
