Is Dane Cook the funniest man in America?

I was perusing CNN in my slacking ways during my finals days at work and ran across the article linked above. It’s interesting that this is an AP piece since it comes off more as an editorial than anything of real journalistic substance. Regardless, I agree with the premise being presented, which is that Dane Cook simply isn’t that funny.

I watched Tourgasm on HBO, the Dane Cook special that followed him on his tour around the country. I figured, having made HBO, he would be pretty funny. I was proven wrong and couldn’t even sit through half an hour of his routine. I don’t care how much of an effort he makes to connect to younger audiences through his website or myspace, if you’re not funny, you’re not funny. The CNN/AP piece mentions Chris Rock, Dave Chappell and Jerry Seinfeld, all of whom are stellar comedians that will stand the test of time. Dane Cook? I think not.
